Crazy Week Done

What a crazy week it has been!

On Friday 14 August, we decided to move ourselves out of our home a little earlier than planned, ready for the house move. We moved in with my parents for a few days, which took some of the pressure off trying to get everything moved on the actual moving day. It also happened to be the same day we were due to head off to Germany that evening, so it gave me a chance to slow down, catch my breath and hopefully get a little rest before the next adventure.

Tuesday came around and, at about 11am, we got the call to say we could collect the keys to our new home. We headed over and, for the first time, saw the house completely cleared out. It was the first proper chance to see the space as ours — and also to appreciate just how much work we have ahead of us!

Later that day, the family came over to help with a much bigger move of our belongings. Once that was done, we headed back to my parents, where I tried to get some sleep before setting off for Germany.

I managed about an hour.

At 10:30pm we headed off towards Folkestone to catch the 2:20am train to Calais. From there it was a long drive through Belgium and Luxembourg before finally reaching Germany.

We had been looking forward to a McDonald's breakfast somewhere in Luxembourg, but unfortunately discovered that McDonald's apparently doesn't really do breakfast there. Much disappointment all round!

By this point, I was barely hanging on after driving through the night, so getting to the campsite was a very welcome sight. We had a chill, a swim and, most importantly, some sleep.

Then it was time for Europa-Park.

Our first two days were spent exploring the park, and it really is amazing. Great rides, incredible theming, plenty of food and, of course, beer seemingly available everywhere!

Then came Saturday — my birthday.

We headed up to the Hasenhorn, where we took the chairlift to the summit before tackling the 2.9km mountain coaster back down.

That was really the main reason I wanted to come along, and it absolutely lived up to expectations. Flying down the mountain on a toboggan was brilliant and definitely worth the long journey!

The drive up into the mountains was an adventure in itself. The van certainly struggled with some of the mountain passes, but it's still going strong — so I'm calling that a win!

We also stopped to visit the world's largest cuckoo clock, which was another little bonus along the way.

So, after one of the busiest and most exhausting weeks I can remember — moving house, moving our belongings, barely sleeping, driving through three countries and then spending days at Europa-Park — we're finally getting a chance to slow down a little.

Hopefully next week brings some good weather, a few more adventures and, most importantly, a bit of chill time before we make the journey home.

Then it's back to our new home, where a whole load of decorating, DIY and jobs are waiting for us.

Crazy week done.

Crazy few weeks ahead!
