June... where did it go?
Looking back through my photos this month, there really aren't many to show. Life simply got in the way, and sometimes that's exactly how it should be.
The first week brought grey skies and plenty of rain. Not ideal for photography, but perfect for finally taking my van off the road to tackle a job I'd been putting off.
With our Germany trip getting closer, I wanted peace of mind, so both driveshafts were replaced. It wasn't a glamorous week—just grease, sweat, snapped breaker bars, and a stubborn hub nut that seemed determined to win. Thankfully, persistence eventually paid off, and now I have a couple of months to put some miles on it before we head across Europe.
After the rain came the heat.
If you've read my blog for any length of time, you'll know I'm not much of a fan of hot weather. While many people were enjoying the sunshine, I found myself looking for shade and trying to stay cool.
Alongside that, moving house continued to dominate my free time. There always seemed to be another thing to do, cleaning out junk to the tip, another box to pack, or another job to tick off the ever-growing list.
Something else became increasingly obvious too.
I had been feeling stressed and worn out, I'd only had one booked one day off from work all year—and that was for a funeral.
Rather than dwell on it, I decided to do something for myself.
I booked a Friday off.
No jobs. No decorating. No expectations.
Just me, the kayak, and a camera.
The kayak was exactly what I needed.
The water was calm, the world slowed down, and although I only came home with a handful of photographs taken on my GoPro, that really wasn't the point.
Sometimes photography isn't about creating your best work.
Sometimes it's simply about reminding yourself why you enjoy carrying a camera in the first place.
And perhaps that's what June was really about.
Not producing lots of images.
Not chasing locations.
Just making a little space to breathe.
Hopefully, July will offer a little more time behind the camera.
But if not, that's okay too.
This was June, seen digitally.
