May 2026 — Seen Digitally

May has been and gone. How fast is this year moving?

As the months seem to pass quicker and quicker, it's nice to pause and look back at the photographs made along the way. May wasn't the busiest month behind the camera, but it was a month filled with familiar places, family adventures, and making the most of some beautiful weather.

South Downs

May began with one of my favourite things: a walk across the South Downs.

Armed with the Fuji X-T1 and the DJI Neo, I spent a few hours enjoying the open landscape and capturing a mixture of images from the ground and the air. The Downs are a place I return to again and again. The views change with the seasons, the light is never quite the same, and there is always something new to notice.

Paultons Park & Valgard

Later in the month, we headed to Paultons Park for the opening of Valgard.

Theme parks might not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about photography, but they offer plenty of opportunities. From details and architecture to people enjoying the attractions, there was plenty to point a camera at throughout the day.

Alongside the Fuji X-T1, I also spent some time using the Mia Pinhole body cap. It's always interesting to see a familiar place through a different photographic approach, and the soft, simple pinhole images provided a nice contrast to the digital files.

Kayak Season Returns

The incredibly warm weather could only mean one thing: it was time to get the kayak back on the water.

This time, I left the main camera at home and relied on the GoPro 12 to capture a few images while paddling. Nothing particularly special photographically, but that's not really the point. Sometimes it's enough simply to document the experience and enjoy being out on the water.

Hopefully this is the start of many more kayaking trips throughout the summer.

Long Man of Wilmington

The final day of May ended perfectly.

My daughter and I headed up to the Long Man of Wilmington on a beautiful evening. As the sun dropped lower in the sky, the landscape was bathed in warm light, creating the sort of conditions photographers always hope for.

The photographs were nice, but the time spent together was even better. Sharing sunsets, walks, and photography with family is something I value more and more as the years pass.

It felt like a fitting way to bring May to a close.

Looking Back

Looking through the month's photographs, a common theme emerges: simply being outside.

Whether walking the South Downs, exploring a theme park, paddling a kayak, or watching the sunset with my daughter, photography was there as a companion rather than the purpose.

As life continues to be busy with house moves, family life, and everything in between, I'm grateful for these small moments and the photographs that help me remember them.

This was May, seen digitally.
