Sometimes you just need to get out and reset your head.
Life has been busy lately. We’re in the middle of preparing to move—sorting through years of stuff, clearing out the junk, tackling DIY jobs, and trying to make the house feel a little more “spacious” for viewings. It’s one of those seasons where everything feels full, both physically and mentally.
Photography, for the most part, has taken a back seat.
Film especially. Between developing and scanning, it’s hard to justify the time right now. Even my usual space in the loft has disappeared under boxes and things we’ve moved out of the way. It’s strange how quickly something that’s such a big part of life can get pushed aside.
But without photography, I start to feel a bit lost.
It’s more than just taking pictures—it clears my head, helps me slow down, and gives me space away from everything else going on. It’s where I process things without really realising I’m doing it.
So last Saturday, I made a point of getting up a bit earlier and just going.
Nothing complicated. Just a simple walk across the South Downs. Camera in hand, no pressure, no expectations—just being out.
I took the Fujifilm X-T1, paired with the TTArtisan 25mm f/2 and the Fujifilm 55–200mm. A simple setup, but more than enough. It wasn’t about gear, or even the photos really—it was about getting back into that mindset.
And it helped.
Even a short walk, a few frames, a bit of quiet—it was enough to reset things a little.
I’m hoping to carry that into next weekend as well. On the 18th, the plan is to head over to Oxford to meet up with Andy (Irresponsible Pictures) and Andrea (Mia Pinhole) for a bit of photography. It’ll be good to get out with others again, share ideas, and just enjoy the process.
Because sometimes, that’s all you need.
Just to get out.
