Day 5 — Birthdays, Boats, and a Breeze of Realisation
The day started bright - ish, cooking toast on a gas BBQ is my new normal, smothered in Nutella for breakfast. Today was a special one—our youngest turned nine today. We headed to the Lakes Aquarium at Windermere to celebrate. It was a great spot for a relaxed morning before the tourist rush hit full swing. Then a long drive to the nearest supermarket for a food and fuel top-up (the glamour of adventure!).
Photography-wise, it was a slower day. I’d planned to finally get some proper drone footage, realising I’d hardly filmed anything so far this trip. I managed to capture a little—definitely not as much as I’d hoped—but it’s something.
In the late afternoon, we loaded up the kayaks and paddleboards again and headed back out onto Ullswater. We fished, paddled, and stopped once more at Norfolk Island. It was a bit windy, but I took a risk and sent the DJI Neo up over the lake—wind and water being a nerve-wracking combo. Hopefully, I’ve got some good video from it.
I also shot a few more frames on the RealitySoSubtle 6x6. I’m trying to finish off that roll soon, so I can finally load up the 6x17—because it hit me today: there are only three full days left, and this place deserves that panoramic frame.
