Two Broken GoPros and a New Drone: My Latest Tech Adventures
Recently, I upgraded to the GoPro Hero 12. While on holiday, I accidentally broke the rear LCD touchscreen on my trusty Hero 8, which had been with me for a couple of years. Unaware of the damage, I took a dive into the pool with the kids, and when I got out, I noticed the screen had gone all glitchy. That was the end of the Hero 8’s touchscreen, and it hasn't worked since.
Seeing this as an opportunity to upgrade, I purchased the new GoPro Hero 12. Unfortunately, after just a month of use, it developed a glitch. I contacted GoPro’s support, and after following their troubleshooting steps, including reinstalling the software, the issue persisted. Luckily, they’ve agreed to send me a replacement. So, my Hero 12 is currently on its way back to them, and I'm waiting for a new one to arrive.
In the meantime, I'm left without a working GoPro for my YouTube videos. I’ve ordered a replacement screen for my Hero 8, which I’ll try to install once it arrives. Until then, or until the Hero 12 returns, I’m unable to record new content. Fingers crossed I’m back in action soon!
On a brighter note, I’ve finally taken the plunge into the world of drones. For years, I’ve been tempted to get one, but the cost and fear of crashing or losing it always held me back. I wanted something small and easy to carry, preferably a drone that could be controlled via a smartphone rather than a bulky controller.
That’s when I stumbled upon the new DJI Neo, and it seems like a perfect fit. At just 135g, it’s the lightest and most compact drone in DJI's lineup ( I think). What really sold me is its AI subject tracking and the ability to take off and land in the palm of your hand without a remote. It also has a variety of preset flight modes that don’t require a controller at all, making it super convenient for capturing footage while I’m out shooting with my pinhole cameras.
I'm really excited to test it out and plan to take it for a spin this weekend (weather permitting). Without the distraction of my GoPro, I’m hoping to get some nice aerial footage while I focus on photography. Stay tuned for updates—hopefully, I’ll have some epic drone shots to share soon!
