Soaring Above Sussex: My First Gliding Adventure

 

On Saturday, September 21st, I finally had the chance to experience something I've always dreamed of—gliding. It was a thoughtful gift from my wife for my 40th birthday, and it did not disappoint. Despite the less-than-ideal conditions, the experience was absolutely unforgettable.

After being towed up to 3,000 feet by a small aircraft, we began our gentle descent, gliding through the air for just over 20 minutes. While the weather wasn’t perfect for an optimal flight, the sensation of soaring silently through the sky was nothing short of breathtaking.

It was a unique, serene way to celebrate a milestone, and I can't wait to try it again when the conditions are perfect!

The cockpit was quite snug, with the pilot behind me handling all the controls. My main task was to stay mindful of the foot pedals, the joystick in the center, and levers on both sides—definitely a tight fit!

Overall, my first gliding experience was everything I hoped for and more. Even though the conditions weren't perfect, the thrill of soaring above the Sussex countryside was unforgettable. It's safe to say I hope this won’t be my last time gliding.
